Most of us are familiar with blogging. A blog (or weblog) is simply an online journal with a certain subject matter. Blogs posts are typically a couple of paragraphs long. Like blogging, micro-blogging has become very popular. It’s a blog but much shorter.
A service called Twitter has emerged as an early leader in micro blogging . An entry in Twitter, or a “tweet,” is typically one or two sentences in length. In fact, you will get cut-off if you’re much more wordy than that. While micro blogging you create a network, something that has real potential as a marketing tool for your firm. You can see who is reading your blog (followers) and you can follow others too.

Adrian Lurssen has identified more than 500 lawyers and legal professionals using twitter.
At a glance many of the legal ‘tweets’ are very conversational in nature. @LeeRosen talks about his practice area divorce law, but also tells us about some recent shopping he’s done and also holiday leftovers he’s still eating!
There are 279 people following his tweets, it’s a small community that literally have “online conversations.” Twitter is valuable to legal professionals as it shows reaction with current trends, many of these posts are made from mobile handheld devices, so not having access to your desktop is no longer an excuse to blog. There has been a lot of reaction from lawyers on the global recession and how it has affected the legal world. It’s not all legal talk on twitter. It is not un-common to see legal professionals tweet about their hobbies or funny family stories from the holidays.

Zappos the online shoe store’s CEO Tony Hsieh is very active on @zappos Twitter. Hsieh shares information on what he is upto professionally and personally. At the time of writing there were over 20,000 people following his twitter account.
Twitter has provided success stories to many including Marshal Kirkpatrick who claims twitter is paying his rent. Atlantans are using twitter to find cheap gasoline during a shortage this fall.
